I'm trying to install the harmonic balancer. When I went to the local auto store for timing chain gasket kit, there is a thin metal cylinder that seems to fit over the front cone of the harmonic balancer, but when I took the balancer off there was no metal cylinder over the front cone. The metal cylinder is so thin that if I try to install it on the harmonic balancer the metal starts to bend. My question is how do you install the harmonic balancer, is this thin metal cylinder needèd? What is for?
that is a sleeve to install on the balancer if it has a wear groove in it from running on the seal. it can be installed if you heat it some. if the old balancer has no wear groove you shouldnt need it. i've installed them before by heating the sleeve in the oven and put the balancer in the frig. it'll slide right on. should have a small tool to install it with
First, thank you for responding so fast.
