What is the best oil to use? I have a 1975 all stock small block with over 100,000 miles. Was using GTX High Mileage Synthetic, but was told to use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 15W-50 duel to high ZDDP. Is this the correct oil to use? Don't want to damage the engine now that it is running nice.

Thanks.
Lots of material on this subject. Use an oil meeting the CJ-4 specification. Does not need "additives". WIX filter and you should be good to go.
As mentioned, this topic has come up quite often. Zinc levels have been cut back from modern oils, because said piston ring blow by could damage cat converters, and mostly roller tappets now. Older flat tappet engines seem to like a little more zinc, for better lubrication. Oil manufacturers get around this, by marketing race oils. Probably not a bad idea, using high zinc Valvoline VR-1 racing oil, or Joe Gibbs.
This gets brought up every couple weeks. Use automobile oil not deisel or motorcycle oil. There is a stickey at the top of the tech and performance page. Correct oils are listed there. Use the correct viscocity for your car 10W-40 for a higher mileage engine in good running condition should be fine.
