I turned on my wipers last night for a bit and when I shut them off they just kept going. they will change from slow to fast but they will not go into park and let the door shut.
Is this a bad switch or ???????????????????
Re: Wiper control problem, they wont turn off (BLT-71)
It sure sounds like a bad switch. The good news is that these switches are available now from Paragon. Bad news is that they are close to $60.
Before you spend money on this, do some troubleshooting. Try removing the panel that the switch is in. This only takes five screws for non-a/c cars. Take a length of wire and try grounding the switch with one end of the wire to the metal body of the switch and the other end to a metal brace under the dash. We just fixed my friend's 73 switch. He had High and wash but no low or low with wash. We carefully pried the metal prongs off of the switch and took it apart. If you choose to do this BE VERY CAREFUL and slow. Note how things go as you take it apart. I say this because there is a simple mechanical slide and spring that if it falls out because you rushed it you will never get it back together unless you see how it came out. We wound up cleaning the three copper contacts in the base of the unit and the metal plate that is attached to the switch itself. This was a very easy 30 minute job and the switch now works as advertised.

I had a similar problem on my 68 - (but I think the 68 wiper circuit is a little different). The bizarre thing for me was I COULD NOT TURN THEM OFF!! Were you able to turn them off?? I shut off the engine, and pulled the key and they kept going!! (washers were squirting also!!) I pulled out the switch and they still kept going!! I disconnected the battery and they... ok, they stopped when I disconnected the battery, and then I pulled the fuse and that was two years ago...... MJ
Re: Wiper control problem, they wont turn off (BLT-71)
Mine will stop when I turn the kill switch and also if I have the switch in the off position and turn the key off they go into the park position.
Weird! I left them down and left the kill switch off so I wont have them up.
I went out to ground the switch as suggested and ended up getting a zap from the switch. It is definitly shorted out. So I will be getting a new switch soon.
Thanks everyone.
