Looking for something that comes on 185 tops maybe 180 or?
Turns off 5-10 degrees less.
Spal fan relay kit and fan switch.
They only make 2
1 that comes on 195 too warm for my liking
2 on 185 off 165. My car will never run that cool period so the fan runs all the damn time.
As it is, sitting in 90 deg weather it wont pull it down under low 180s. Sure its not "hot" but do run some compression and timing. Little cooler would be nice. Not much
Do I have to run a spal specific switch is there something special about them>
I plan on twisting the snot out of this motor...sure a mech fan will cool much better at idle or very low speeds but dont need it coming apart potentially and dont want to give up any power.
Some other brand/part # I can use (no controllers)
The lead is not long enough to go in the car, Mine is mounted under the nood. Just start the car, let it warm to the "on" temp, then turn the **** til the fan comes on. It come with a diagram, but wiring a fan through a relay is about as simple as wiring gets. Probably a dozen diagrams online too.
This seems like a good way to go, the drain **** is on the same side as the lower(return) radiator hose, so it would be sensing the coolant temp returning to the engine. Even under heavy load, if at hiway speeds the air flow across the radiator is enough, the fans would not turn on.
I really like the adustable. If you think it's coming on too much, just turn the temp up. Not something you can do with a switch. I've also wired it so the fan comes on with the AC trinary switch. At hiway speeds in reasonable temps, the fan rarely comes on and temp is stable. Been working great for about 5 years, I did the same setup in my 442.
No just a single relay. Switched ignition providing the + voltage and ground provided by the trinary switch or temp switch. High amperage circuit starts at the alternator, through a 40 amp fuse, to the relay.
It's pretty much the same as in the Vintage Air link above.

the relay set ups for two speed fans when used with dual fans, shut off the low temp. fan when they activate the high temp. one , just as they de-energize the low speed when they turn on the high speed. If you dont want to run both at the same time they are fine, but to run both at the same time they need individual switches 'temp or other' , and their own relays
some vehicles , have 2 temp. switches combined in one unit with a different leg going to each fan, 'bmw' mercedes, among others and are adaptable to the chevy engine
I have mine set up with the two temp. switches but I'm always looking for something better

I have it in my Dewitts radiator and it actually switches on about 188* and off about 178*. If I had it in the water cross over on the intake it would probably cycle on closer to 180*.
When I had the spal 185/165 switch it was really more like 195* on and 180* off... I didnt want my engine that hot.
My lincoln MK8 fan will cycle on at 188* and instantly pulls the temps down below 180*....even on a 100* day. Been running this setup for about 8k miles. Works great.
Yes, on my 442, used Ford Windstar fans. They can be wired for hi/lo speed. I chose to wire them independedntly. One fan is controlled by the ecu (it's and LS1 swap too). The other is controlled by the adjustable thermostat AND the AC trinary switch. The thermostat temp setting is higher than the ecu setting. It comes on more often due to the AC switch.
The ecu controlled fan does about 90% of the work. The hi temp/AC switch will cycle on and off on very hot days.

The Lincoln dual speed relays only work with fans specifically made to run 2 speeds, correct?

The Lincoln, Taurus, Volvo two speed fans need to have the low speed shut off when the high speed comes on. If you are not using a computer to turn them on you would need two different temp switches/controlers like Ye Olde Alaskaman said.
No...maybe someday....go back and forth. Drove the old ZR1 the other day...kinda disappointed really.
installed an analog in my A body to see what temps it was really running at. Think before I go any further I am going to make a shroud for the fan and see if that doesnt help bring it down quicker at low speeds/idle then make a decision on a switch.
