Default Feels like E-brake engaged

Hi Guys, I just started having this problem driving down the northway, I pulled off the road & feels like ebrake is on, It was alittle tough getting her going again, I havent driven the car since. I was planning on changing the differental fluid in her. Anything else I should be looking for?

Thanks Again Mark

It could be the parking brake, but most of them would be barely noticable when applied, they don't work all that well to begin with. You could also have problems with the mastercylinder push rod adjustment or collapsing rubber brake lines making the brakes drag.

Drive the car again and when this happens immediately check the brake calipers and see if any of them are hot to the touch. If you find a hot one/s then the brake calipers are not releasing which could be caused by the above. I had the same problem (being caused by the rod being adjusted too long) and I would loosen the master cylinder from the booster and move it forward a little ways. Calipers would then release I was able to drive on home.

It sounds like one of your calipers might be sticking and not allowing the brake pads to release. It could be for one of the reasons suggested by '75 or a piston sticking in the caliper.

I had the same problem recently. Turned out to be a faulty booster that had been recently replaced. To test, the next time it happens, crack the two lines at the master cylinder to relieve pressure and see if it releives the symptom.

Hi Dochorsepower, I don't have a brake booster, Manual brakes , I hope it something simple, you recommended to open brake line to relieve pressure?

Every single time this has happened to me it was a collapsed old brake hose.

The inside swells in the old hose and does not allow the fluid to return to the cyclinder, in turn keeping the caliper engaged.

I will replace both brake hoses, , first thing I am doing is replacing the differential fluid , it's been a long time coming.
