Default wooped on the C5 427 Guldstrand!

ok... Danny (my older son) has been getting a little cocky lately with his 427 Guldstrand egging me on about taking him on in the 1/4... already spanked him in the canyons but he blames his tires...

anyway... we head out to nowhere land... and we did it..... he never had a chance... all he saw was C3 ***, ..... he said there was a white cloud or mist in the rear wheel well as he saw me cost on away.... both times... his engine is rated at 550HP, and he weighs well over 100 lbs less than I do. I could smoke him 0 to anything.... 60 to anything... 1/4 mile, 4 car lengths. another happy day for the 33yo C3

edit (no where land) we are able, with permission, the use pavement at the fairgrounds next to the MX bike racing track. Sometimes i also race my RM250 here. been racing since i was 5

What you learned how to shift finally? I've been driving my Vette kind of hard because I need a ring refreshing. That is why I showed a little smoke when I was down to see you guys.

I've been thinking about the shift times 1-2 2-3 and I must have it down because it is really fast. I was out yesterday heading out to the Reno Air races with a friend and I ran it through the gears and then slowed down with traffic and out of the blue I had two cop cars around me. I kept waiting for the lights to come on because they were beside me and behind in a 55 Zone for about a mile and they took an exit.

My personalized plates are 1096 the police call sign for a metal case

thanks again and again... it is an amazing valve train, only reason to shift at under 7K is the rev limiter.... it pulls like a freight train right up to redline.

What engine, tranny are you running? As others have said it is always fun to spank a C5/6 and see the looks on their faces as they try to figure out which tuner to run off to to get add'l hp/tq installed and how many '000's more it is going to cost them.
What suspension upgrades have you done to help your C3 stay firmly planted on terra firma?

Default change of direction

here are the specs of the Guldstrand taken from the link below, this is my sons car:

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...e-specs-page-4

Katech Corvette Z06 ClubSport

Right in time for the ZR1, another $100,000 Corvette to complicate your buying decision.

OCTOBER 2008 BY JARED GALL MULTIPLE PHOTOGRAPHERS
VEHICLE TYPE: front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 2-passenger, 2-door coupe

PRICE AS TESTED: $109,000 (base price: $109,000)

ENGINE TYPE: pushrod 16-valve V-8, aluminum block and heads, port fuel injection
Displacement: 428 cu in, 7008cc
Power (mfr's claim): 535 bhp @ 6500 rpm
Torque (mfr's claim): 490 lb-ft @ 5200 rpm

TRANSMISSION: 6-speed manual

DIMENSIONS:
Wheelbase: 105.7 in Length: 177.6 in Width: 75.9 in Height: 48.5 in Curb weight: 3009 lb

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 3.4 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 7.8 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 12.5 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 3.7 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 11.6 sec @ 126 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 151 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 1.12 g

more info from the web...: this is a few years older... guldstrand.
Dick's cars:
GS80 (1989 C4 based) 355hp/5200rpms 425ft.lbs./4000rpms. 3.07 rear axle ratio. 0-60: 5.1 1/4mi: 13.5/108 Top Speed: 171 (RTS 89)
GS90 (1995 ZR1/LT5) 475hp/7000rpm 420ft.lbs/5000rpms 4.09 rear axle ratio. 0-60: 4.6. 1/4mi: 12.9/114 Top Speed: 176 (CD 3/95)

Guldstrand developed a more rigid body for the GS80-GS90 cars. For significant support, the targa top was permantly affixed. Additional bracing was added between the windshield support and the halo.

50th Anniversary Signature Edition (S/E):
Unveiled at the Corvette 50th Anniversary Kick Off at the National Corvette Museum.

A New Generation 427 V8 producing 500 hp at 5,600 RPM and 520 ft-lbs. of torque at 4,700 RPM, built by Katech, Inc. (produces the engines for the Corvette C5-R race cars), from specifications developed by Guldstrand. The stock Z06 bore/stoke of 3.898/3.622 inches is taken out to 4.12/4.0-inches. The entire block is re-machined with billet steel used for main caps and both head and main bearing studs. Katech pistons are inserted in the enlarged bores, and rings are file-fitted to exactly match the bore dimensions of each cylinder. Carillo rods connect the pistons to a 4340 forged crankshaft. Katech Stage III cylinder head combustion chambers are cc'd and ported. Rocker arms and lifters remain factory stock. Titanium retainers and stainless steel valves are employed as is an adjustable timing set and a stronger high performance timing chain from the C5-R race car. The camshaft has a high performance profile with higher lift and longer duration, but remains totally streetable. The compression ratio is 10.8:1. Fuel flows to the heads through a Katech ported throttle body.

All of this adds up to a 427 cubic inch engine producing 500 horsepower at 5,600 RPM and 520 ft-lbs. of torque at 4,700 RPM. Yet, it remains totally suited to everyday street driving with its attendant use of air conditioning and long periods spent at idle speeds in heavy traffic.

- High-performance Z-rated Michelin Pilot Sport tires mounted on Fikse wheels.

- Suspension modifications consisting of Dick Guldstrand-engineered front and rear stabilizer bars and heim-jointed links, and high-performance Flowmaster exhaust.

- Interior package with re-contoured sport seats, embossed Guldstrand Anniversary logo and signature, suede accents, and carbon fiber console.

- Specific hood and body panels in Anniversary Gold and Cobalt Blue paint by DuPont.

- Special underhood trim including carbon fiber engine and fuse box covers using Anniversary logo and 427 nomenclature.

- Graphics package and treatment by former GM and Corvette designer John Schinella.

Only 50 Guldstrand Signature Edition Corvettes will be built. Each of these collectible cars have special serialized ID numbers and Dick Guldstrand's personal signature.

Cost: $49,330 plus a 2003 Z06 Corvette.
