the po installed a edelbrock performer plus 2162 cam (.500) lift and 1.7 ratio rockers and cast tall valve covers in a 69 427 with non power brakes. it's going into a car with p/b.
will stardard height covers clear the rockers? my reason for questioning is the power brake booster. if i need tall covers (the existing ones don't have the depression), what are my alternatives? change booster to a smaller version? if so, what do you recommend?
thanks
My preference is to change to hydroboost, very compact and does not rely on vacuum, however it's a little more involved than just switching to a smaller vacuum booster.
I haven't had any problems with the tall covers on mine, a 454 replaced the small block and there have been a few different sets on it over the years. The biggest problem is that you just can't get them off and on in a hurry. Getting the rear bolts on the drivers side takes some work to.
If they are stock type rockers, the the stock covers will fit with no trouble.
If they are roller rockers with poly locks, then you could have a problem with stock cover clearing the poly locks.
There are short poly locks available though, so you should still be OK.
Actually with a cam that small I would probably run factory type stamped rockers anyway.
