A new problem
Here's a new problem. Haven't heard of this one before. I replaced my shifter a couple of years ago. New from one of the vendors but I don't remember which one right now.
The other day I pulled the car out of the shop for a fall cruise (our colors are in full bloom now) and the shifter almost came right out of the car into my hand. Only the boot was holding it in place.
I opened up the console so I could get at the thing and it had just come apart. Didn't think it came apart there but there it was in two pieces. Here's a pic of my old one and the red circle is where it came apart.
I put some JB Weld on it and now waiting for it to 'cure' overnite. Will put it back together tomorrow and go for a drive and take some fall pics.
Anyone have this problem before?

The shifter in my '68 was loose in that area when I rebuilt it a number of years ago. I had it welded at a machine shop and it's been fine. Since that area is below the upper boot, no one can see the repair that was done.

At first glance I was praying it wasn't a wiper motor issue. LOL.. remember I passed this torch to DZ.....
Yes I've heard of it.. In fact the manufacturer of the shifter replaced two of these for us. From what I gather, and what you can now see is that there was an issue with the handle... this issue was resolved a while back and I don't remember exactly when but we've not had the first issue since.
I searched all your invoices and it didn't come from us.. You know I'd take care of you if it did.

Thanx Ernie. It was an easy fix and I wasn't worried about it at all. Everyone knows that if you were involved, you would look after your customer as usual. That's why you're the BEST vendor on the site.
