In another thread I related how the line feeding the oil pressure gauge in my '69 had ruptured. The line has been blocked at the engine until I get it into the shop. Obviously, oil sprayed all over under the dash/instrument consoles and is still dripping down onto the floor of the car. I removed the carpets which will be replaced. My question: will the oil cause deterioration of the wiring or other components. Before replacing carpets I am going to clean, as best I can, the oil on electronic components.
That was kind of what I was thinking, Doug. I am definitely going to wait a while b4 I replace the carpeting. Had planned on doing that sometime before next driving season anyway. The car will be going in for a paint job (another thread talked about the sob(s) that keyed both sides this summer) but I will have the oil pressure line and a couple of other mechanical projects done before going into the paint shop.
Oil will seep into the connectors at the gauges and cause them not to work. Happened to me. So, make sure you clean the oil off all connectors. My 2 cents.
Mike
It can, yes. But usually that only happens with chronic exposure over the course of years. I wouldn't be too concerned with one incident. But definitely get back there and clean everything off.

oh man, your one of the people that this has happened to? man, i'm sorry, I've never had this happen to me(yet), but I've seen cars that I knew at one time must have been just beautiful, have key scratches up and down the doors and fenders. sad as hell, does some poor jealous ******* gain some kind of satisfaction from defacing the fruits of someone else's labor?
