Default BUBBA strikes again!!!!

Several months ago I pulled the center instrument cluster in my 76'. I noticed before I started unplugging wires that a previous owner, who I now know as Bubba, had carefully written the wire colors for the plugs that went onto each gauge. Along with the factory stampings for the courtesy lights, this was very helpful. So after being apart for a couple of weeks, I plugged it all back together and fired up the car. After idleing for a few minutes I opened the door to be greeted with the stench of burning plastic and wires. After pulling the center cluster out I found my "battery" gauge cooked. I just figured that I had pinched a wire.
I put everything else back together and have been driving it without gauges.

Fast forward to today, and my replacement gauge arrives in the mail. I pull the center console, install the gauge, carefully plug the wires back onto the terminals that Bubba had so nicely marked..........no battery gauge.
:boxing :cuss :cuss :mad :mad ....now what?????

Never suspected that the gauge was bad so checked some other things.
Pulled everything back apart ....inspected wires...double checked everything I could think of. Finally went inside...got a cold one and sat down with my AIM.

I had been out smarted by Bubba.....he was nice enough to write the color codes on the back of the cluster...BUT!!!! He wrote them WRONG!!!
He had the color codes for the Fuel gauge written next to the Battery gauge.

Now that the battery gauge works I am looking to replace my fuel gauge.

If you have one please see this thread................
