It's a long story, but I've taken in a charity case for a friend; an 81 with the CCC. However, I think the best thing to do, since the motor was replaced with some other year, and it now has (I believe to be) a 600 4150 Holley on it and missing some sensors [sigh], is to put a stand-alone, vacuum advance distributor on it.
So... go find and install a prior year stock HEI distributor, or some aftermarket part? Whatcha think, gurus?

If you just want to get it running simply and cheaply, a stock HEI unit is a great solution, and they're quite reliable as long as the module isn't a cheapie. There are so many other units out there that it's hard to recommend one. MSD would be at the top of my list for cost-no-object. Personal experience would advise against ANYTHING with the word "Mallory" on it...
this one works, is cheap, and is pretty, installed three in the past year, you can spend more money but it will work the same
btw, you can get them with a black cap also. I know how those charity cases work, hope this helps. here's the black cap version
It has an adjustable vacuum can. With it set to 12* initial, the mechanical puts it at 36*. However, I did change the springs out to lighter springs so it would come all in quicker. That was all though. I like it and the price was nice.

Do they come with cell phones and pre programmed tow truck company numbers in them Man those Chinese are getting good at making things look purdy My MSD cap and rotor were only 7 bucks cheaper than their entire distributor
