Wanting to put Cragar SS 15x8 on my 78 SA. I am confused by the backspacing issue. I have stock calipers and trailing arms. Will a 4 1/4 backspace with -6 offset work well for me? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I just don't have anything particularly nice to say about putting Cragar SS mags on a '78 SAE, nor of the 1/2" reduction in track width from stock that a 4.25" BS on 8's will net you, nor of the spacers which may be required to clear the calipers and to fix the track width thing. JMHO, but it's your car.
In any event, I wouldn't worry too much about offset math, unless that's all you have to go by, as BS info is all you really need to get the wheels properly oriented relative to the fenders.

Forget offset it just confuses the issue.
When ordering custom wheels most companies will ask for backspace.
Think about that wheel choise. You may want to go in a different direction.
