We finished up the rear end last night, and got to the point of mounting the caliper onto the Trailing Arm. Well it wouldn't fit. The bottom edge where the bolt goes into the mounting bracket was hitting the T/A. We had to grind some of the metal off of the caliper and reinstall. The car drives really well, it's so much fun... i'll make a separate thread with some pictures. Just wanted to let you guys know :seeya
Is it typical to clearance the calipers to fit the offsets? This is the first time I've heard of that. I've been thinking of saving up for a set of offsets for my car.
Glad to hear it's all back together and working well for you  .
Re: Offset TA incompatibility.... (Chris Fowler '80)
Are you using a stock caliper? I remember you bought new ones a while back...
You are correct.. they are from stainlesssteelbrakes.com They fit on the stock trailing arm with no problems. I can take a look at my old cores that I still have here.. but i believe those are rounded on the bottom aswell?
I believe this is not a typical requirement, because I also have offset T/A's on my 70 and there were no clearance problems with my calipers.
I didn't investigate the source of the calipers Jenny has... it was 2:00 am and I was pretty dirty & greasy by then.... just wanted to get the car rolling.
I had to grind off part of the caliper rearward mounting tab, just below the bolt hole. The casting was hitting the T/A and preventing the caliper mounting bolt from starting in the threads in the caliper support.
I was surprised there was a problem... haven't seen this one before.
I used a heavy duty body grinder with about a 36 grit disc. I had to grind off a fair amount. Because the tab is so close to the T/A, it is pretty difficult to see the modification unless you are looking for it.
PS- While I was packing up my tools, I heard Jenny frying the tires off in the distance. Sheesh. She just couldn't wait until morning.
