Default dumb question about fuel pumps

'80 'vette. Can the fuel pump be re-built using some sort of re-build kit? The pump looks like it is crimped together somehow, doesn't look like you can dis-assemble it easily. I know, I know, new ones are pretty cheap, but I like to re-build things. Too many "new" parts that were defective.......man, that pisses me off!

I am planning a cam & head swap, in-car, and I figure I might as well do the fuel pump......."while-I'm-at-it". Oh-oh! I'm coming down with "While-I'm-at-it-itis"!!!

I would have thought no, but a quick Google search led me to the following site:

Not sure how you'd undo and redo the crimp but it looks like the internal parts are pretty simple.

Alright then, now the question becomes: The car has about 70,000 miles on it, and the fuel pump seems to be working just fine......but it's over 30 years old. I'll be removing it as part of the cam & head upgrade, should I get a new one, or just give the old one the old "krylon rebuild" and reuse it? How about the fuel pump push rod? Don't worry, I'm not going to try to re-use the gaskets, I'll use new ones.

I'd replace the pump and replace the push rod too making sure it is compatible with your new cam.

NAPA #41240, about $45.00, go for it.
