Maybe install a set of headers and an exhaust system, re-curve the distributor (it's easier than it sounds, and really delivers a bunch of power that you'll be able to actually notice!), tweak the carb, stuff like that. Make it a hobby for the next year or so to get smart about hotrodding street cars. Try to get a feel for the relationship between an engine's power characteristics, and the transmission's power transfer characteristics, and the effect that rear gear ratio has on a car's acceleration characteristics. That way, you'll be able to make informed choices. Now, you're just shooting in the dark. Take the time and effort to get smart about things before you pull the trigger on a project this big. You're in the military, right? Just use your troop leading procedures, and you'll be all set. A good leader will devote about 2/3 of his available time to planning, if possible. The success of any operation is in the planning, Marine!

BTW, what the heck is a Marine doing in Arizona?

Keep the shiny side up!

thats some real good advice there, if your not sick of cars and dirt falling in your eyes and grease under your nails after doing all the smaller stuff, then maybe you'll want to get into the actual motor
