My advice is to just drive the car as is for awhile, maybe a year or so, and do some small projects on it, like changing out leaky gaskets and stuff, to get a feel for turning wrenches on it. You're in the military, right? Just use your troop leading procedures, and you'll be all set. A good leader will devote about 2/3 of his available time to planning, if possible. The success of any operation is in the planning, Marine!
