I like the looks of the chrome o-ring type water neck on an aluminum intake. Do these things hold up good and not leak? I was going to buy one, but I heard they are prone to leak. Are any of you guys using these things and do they work alright? Thanks!
Go with an aluminum water neck, I have the rubber o-ring type, not a leak in site. I used to have a chrome one, it leaked, looked like crap after a while too.

Re: Chrome water neck? (gerry72)
I bought a Mr. Gasket chrome O-ring housing when I replaced my upper hose. Later down the road there were posts here about them being poorly made and short lived. The were reports of them rusting from the inside. I left mine on though. Then about a year after adding mine, I'm driving down the road and there's a "poof" of white smoke coming thru my L-88 hood and onto the windshield. To make a long story short, the cause was the upper hose slipping off the smoothe chrome housing. On the forum here some guys said there shoulda been a raised area near the end of the housing to prevent the hose from sliding off.
Because of this my entire engine was covered in coolant and my recently self-rebuilt and painted front suspension! :mad :mad
I immediately switched to a Billett Specialties aluminum housing and have had no problems. Plus it looks better too...pricey though! :D
Thanks guys for all the info. I want something that is going to keep it's looks and more importantly keep it's performance. Sounds like to me that there has been both pros and cons on the chrome water neck. I haven't heard anything negative about the aluminum water neck yet except for the price!! Man decisions, decisions
One thing to look out for if you buy a Billet Specialties waterneck from Summit. I don't know if it's the same now but when I ordered on it was listed as "standard chevy" Lil' bugger points straight up. As you can imagine, this doesn't work too well under our hoods. Ended up getting a summit aluminum 45* swivel neck. No real problems, just make sure it's torqued down well and evenly.
