My 68 is almost road ready. I do not know what year it was last driven. The master cylinder cap was gone and it needs replaced because it is rusty inside.
Thought I would buy a master cylinder and power booster combo. The water and rust did not get to the brake proportioning valve so I think because, the output of the Master Cylinder and the input of the valve have no rust. And there is brake fluid dripping from the master cylider output.
Can I test this valve before I drive it? I know what it is suppose to do when driving but I haven't driven it yet. I haven't removed the output lines of the proportioning valve to see if I can move the valves freely. Is that what I do or should I just replace it? I can't believe the thing cost $80.00 Can I get new internal parts? I can't find them.

I don't believe there is a test for the valve. I do know that you cant buy parts for them. They are replaced as an assembly. If you had rusty internals in your master cylinder I would change it anyway. Cheap enough for peace of mind and safety.
Trouble is, it is not a proportioning valve. It is only a switch that is used to detect an imbalance in pressure between the front and rear brake systems, which will illuminate the BRAKE warning light on the dash...the same warning light that comes on when the parking brake handle is raised.
