I recently acquired a 54 Ford F-100 pick-up. Complete basket case, but it had a 70 Chevelle SS front suspension on it and a 327 under the hood. Someone had started this as a project about 20 years ago I guess they gave up on it half way through. I pulled the engine out today and found these numbers:
Block: 3782870
K1963 (Date code perhaps?)
Build: T1214S (doesn't the S mean the type of car it is for?)
I know the T means Tonawanda. I'm curious as to what type of car this came from. I know the block number is the same as 62-65 vette, but I am doubtful that's where the engine originated. Maybe somebody who can decode the build number can tell me more.
If the head numbers would help I can remove the valve covers and get them
Thanks,
Jason
Re: Can someone ID this engine for me?? (jdharkey)
"T1214S" is a 1962 327 that was mated to a Powerglide
T - Tonawanda
12 - December
14 - 14th day
S - Powerglide transmission
I think that 1962 was the only year that "S" by itself was used as the engine suffix, and the block casting was used in 1962. Where on the engine was K1963?

Thanks for the replies so far!!
The power glide makes sense the engine had a torque converter still bolted on it.
The code K1963 is cast in right next to the block number. It is in smaller print.
Re: Can someone ID this engine for me?? (jdharkey)
the K1963 was right where the "19" is in this photo.
Oh, and it says "Chevrolet 327 Turbofire" on the valve covers. I don't know if that is car specific or something they all said. I've haven't had much experience with pre-70s engines. Guess that's about to change :D
