Default Another manifold question- Sorry.

Greetings ALL,
I've got the chance to get an
EDELBROCK PERFORMER INTAKE #3701 (Cheap),
So my question is..... will it work on my 74 smallblock L82 ???
Will it fit under the hood ?????
I currently have a Qjet with divorced choke & EGR
(disconnected but in place).
It seems this manifold has divorced choke & EGR
(or am I missing something??).
I'd like to keep swap as simple as possible thus keeping divorced choke-not worried about the EGR though.
I await your expert answers and welcome opinions/comments/tips
on this swap.
Take it easy, out there.
Cheers,
Gav

The #3701 is a direct replacement to your OEM intake. Unless your intake is damaged or weeping coolant through the casting, I would recommend just cleaning up your intake and reusing. The Performer is an easy swap if your heart is set on it.

I would not have installed on my '80 L48 had my intake not had porosity issues at the rear of the intake.

The hood fitment could be an issue. Might need to change your air cleaner. You would lose the cold air induction that way, though.
I know the 2101 fits on my 74 smallblock. Compare the height specs on both.

That Performer fits under the stock hood just fine. Its nearly identical to the stock aluminum L82 intake....not worth the effort to swap in my opinion.

Thanks for the quick replies.
I think I'll buy it anyway (it's too cheap Not too)
maybe have it polished up & use it later (Winter project).
Thanks again.
CHEERS,

Default The choke dog house needs an adapter plate.

You'll need a choke adapter plate to bolt the choke "dog house" onto. Edelbrock has a part #8901 but it looks like it will raise the dog house higher and the choke operating rod may no longer work?
I've always wondered why edelbrock does it that way? Wieand just casts the correct mount into their manifolds - no adapter plate.

Good Luck,
cardo0

Greetings ALL,
Got my "NEW" manifold yesterday -$115 delivered.
It's in great condition too(even the wife likes it - the manifold that is ;P )
Hey cardo0,
luckily, it came with the choke adapter plate, so that's saved me some bucks.
Will have to do some measuring before installing it to check the choke rod length.
It's Spring time down here so it's time to drive !!!!! and gas/petrol is reasonably cheap ATM so that's a bonus too.
I'm going to a show on Sunday (1st for the season).
It'll be good to put some miles on her and make some new friends too.
Take Care Out There,
Cheers,
Gav

Gooday All,
Did some measuring of my manifolds height.
Here's the result....
Original Cast Intake - 3 inches
Edelbrock #3701 - 3.5 inches.

I already have a drop base air cleaner so I don't think
I'll have any probs (when I come to install it).
I hope this helps someone else.
Cheers,
Gav

What you can do to get a good estimate on your hood to air cleaner clearance starts with getting a small tub of plumbers putty. Roll a few pieces into some narrow cylinders. Place them upright on top of the highest parts of the air cleaner. Close the hood, and then open it again. Check to see if you squashed the putty.
