There not! It's like anywhere else it's "where you go" When I lived in San Antonio there was a Chevron on the corner that would slap an inspection sticker on a "Rickshaw with a 5HP Briggs and Stratton" if you could drive it in! Sounds like he got a raw deal!

And I keep getting flunked for the absolutely dumbest crap--last time it was because the little purple light on the dash that says your brights are on didn't work.
JB, you should not have been flunked for that. Go here: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/insp...item_class.asp to see what they are to inspect.

You are in Williamson Co.....with a Round Rock Address???? I think the place I am talking about is in Williamson Co. I may be wrong. If is in Travis then you should be OK because I lived in Cat Hollow (Williamson Co) and they inspected mine last year. Give them a try.
John
John,
Yep, Williamson Co. Round Rock is in Williamson. So is Lakeline Mall.

Hmm...I didn't realize that Lakeline Mall was in Williamson county...

As far as tightening the cable for the inspection goes, it's already as tight as it can get just for normal operation... :p:

Yep, the county line runs to the west and south of Lakeline. It is in Austin but in the Williamson County part.

You have to adjust the parking brake shoes too, not just the cable!

no matter how you adjust the cable, if the shoes aren't adjusted properly, the brake will not work properly.

I detuned my car this morning because I failed the California smog test and was trying to get it to pass... cut everything back down to factory specs. 500RPM at idle in park with the idle speed sensor selenoid disconnected, 6 degrees timeing advance etc... With everything setup teh way i had it, idle at 900RPM and 12 degrees advance my parking brakes wouldn't even dream of holding... with the car detuned for the smog test the parking brake holds like a champ. probably because the engine is about to die and isn't puting out enough power to turn the wheels:) anyways, you might want to try that...:)

JB;

Someone else already had an experience with parking brakes and a high
horsepower motor. They were told to put it in second gear with the
emergency brake on - it should kill the motor..

He replied, 'yea, maybe for a 4banger honda, but not for a 350/350'
much less a 427/390.

At least, they better not dump the clutch!

theandies, I took it to the place you recommended. He failed it before he went anywhere. Said my steering wheel has too much vertical play. :cry :cry

SharkByte, I've got a 4-speed. To test he actually gave it gas and slowly released the clutch.

I'm just going to put it in the shop Monday...it'll be nice to have a working parking brake anyway... :p:

Actually...beam indicator is on the list of things they have to check...

Really????? Thats a new one...too much vertical play??? I am guessing you have tile/telescoping. Never heard that one before. Was he talking about play in the wheel when you turn the wheel befroe the car starts to turn(slop)? Man, I sure would have thought youwould have passed at that place. They even passed me when I first got my car and I had rusted out side pipes on it. OH well, sorry I steered you to the wrong place. Good luck and don't take your car to Corvette Country.....they are hacks, take it to Austin Corvette.
John
