i recently purchased a 71 vette
when driving the car yesterday i smelled something burning. so i headed home when the car just shut down. i mean no power. no lights no nothing. the car has a fan on the radiator and that works so i know the battery is fine. please tell me it's something simple.
Not good ...... best thing would be start from the battery to the starter checking all the cables and connections ...... then from there I would check all the harnesses and connections up into the engine bay .... then any connections that may be running through the firewall ......
the good news (if you can call it that) is that if you smelled smoke, it should be pretty obvious where things went bad ...... but remember, after finding the smoke, I would trace back to the source to see what caused it .....
Its a bit of a job, but well worth a thorough inspection .......
Good luck ... and lets us know what you find ......
So you can turn the ignition switch on and you have power to the cooling fans but no power inside the car? Doc rebuild has my favorite colored diagrams showing all the connectors and wires. They are worth ordering and having on hand. Made many things easier when looking for a specific electrical problem.
