All of my dash lights are dim on the 81. I've changed the bulbs but that hasn't helped. Is this a grounding problem..or the switch??
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!! :seeya
I have the same problem on my 81 and I even have a new switch cause mine wasn't working when I got the car. I'm planning on going on a grounding safari here in the near future. Maybe even this weekend. Everything else works great as far as electrical goes well mostly anyway  If I do find the prob I'll be sure and post it.
We are the original owners of our '81 and I still don't like the dash lights. By today's standards they are a little on the "light" side, so to speak. I can read them fine with lights on and dimmer turned up but in my other vehicles they are much brighter. Because they've always been that way I don't worry about them much. I've checked grounds before and everything is just fine. A lot depends on how dim is dim as well. Maybe your's are dim and mine are normal, who knows.
Mine were also dim AFTER i replaced the bulbs/switch. take a can of WD-40 and with the rod pulled out, spray some into the opening. Then rotate the **** around. You are basically cleaning the rheostadt. this might help.
The problem is that you've seen dash lights in a newer car, all old cars have dimmer lights.
Not quite. I had a '78 SA that had much brighter dash lights than this. These can't be seen at night because they are so dim....so it's not that I'm used to newer cars.

I have an 81 but have not arrived at the driving at night stage yet. Will smog next week. Anyway, while I was talking to the Psychic Friends Network, I wondered if these lights might be changed to halogen...
This must be common because I have the same problem on my 81. I was thinking a ground problem also. If you do find a problem please let us know what you find and I will do the same.
my 82s not bright but can be seen okay at night.wonder if there is a diferent bulb you could go to .can you check voltage coming out of the light switch?
