What you have there is an artificial reef. Drop it in the ocean.

Going to be pretty hard to keep coolant in that block

I'm just trying to figure out why someone bothered to clean up a block with a big freaking hole in it. Gonna make a coffee table Top Gear style out of it?
That block is FUBARed dude. Move along.

Especially if you just jam the whole can into that hole.

Chewin' up a big jawbreaker bubble gum may suffice until something better comes along. Or, run it without coolant to prevent pressure build up.

hmmm, look at all the naysayers... anything can be fixed with enough time, money and materials. Even that hole could be fixed; but the question is, is it worth it to fix it? You could spend, literally, thousands of dollars welding then re-machining the block.... but cast CAN be welded, and actually it's pretty easy to do.

They fix windowed Donovan, Keith Black etc blocks because they are expensive racing blocks, no point in fixing a $200 OEM block when there are thousands out there to be had.

The aluminum block is a LOT easyer to fix
