Default Need a magician!

I know you guys will probably think I'm nuts, but I don't have room for a body-off project. I need to replace my rear body mounts on my '72 coupe. I did do a search and saw that everyone said to remove the body, but no room. Here are a couple questions, could I loosen all my mounts and just raise the body to give me enough clearance to work? Do the metal outer pieces just protect the bolt/spacers. Do I have rubber mounts or are they solid with spacers? Any help would be much appreciated. If a body removal is the only answer it might be time to sell and move on, thanks for any/all replies

I'm pretty sure there was someone who did a write up (maybe not on here) on changing mounts and only lifted the body enough to get at them (4", maybe it was 6")
I'll have a look and see if I can find the link

Check this link:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...-bushings.html

There's a Vette Web link inside... They did this on a lift which would be easiest, but you can do with the car on the ground as well... Just a little tougher...

68-72 body mounts are solid. 73 and up are rubber. Before you remove anything, take a count of the number of shims at each mount. The same shim stack needs to be installed whn you put in the new mounts.

I did this in my one car garage. You basically just loosen all the bolts and then, after removing the bolts from one side, carefully jack up that side approx. 6" or so and replace the pucks. As stated, save the shims from each mount. There is other threads on this subject. That's where I learned how to do it. Do a search. I used poly but rubber will work to. It wasn't to hard to do. Just be carefull and take your time.

This is a pretty slick procedure if you don't want to lift the body completely off. This is how I intend to replace my body mounts in my driveway with straps and a cherry picker.

i also have done this. you will need to disconnect the bumper brackets from the frame, and remove all of the body mount bolts. you only need to get the body up an inch or so.

Default I did it.

I used the unbolt and lift one side st a time method - works great. I just cut a 2x4 to the right length - at least what looked long enough - and lifted one side, replaced the rubber mounts with rubber, then the other.

If i was to do it again i would use poly pucks at the front and rear mounts and rubber in the middle/body area. This gives the weather exposed mounts tougher poly and stiffer body control. And leaves softer rubber in protected areas under the people compartment.
BTW the rear rubbers mounts where crushed and split by the specified torque so i had to replace them again and use just enough torque to see some compression.

Hes a good link for this:http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/foru....php?p=1419248.

Hope this helps,

I almost completely painted my frame by jacking up one side at a time. Did the body mounts too.
