Default Cut down Rubber body mounts in a '71?

Hi guys, i'm about to renew the body mounts in my '71 and would like to use rubber as my car is lowered and any way of reducing the body shake would be a bonus.

My question is - can the rubber mounts be cut down to the height of the original ali mounts as I don't want the body higher than it is (preferably lower)? I don't want the wheel arch gaps to increase, this is a no no.

And if so should I use the pre or post '73 bolts and are they different?

..and if anyone can tell me the dimensions of the bolts I may be able to source them here in England.

Thanks for your help, Aaron.

Here is a picture of the poly-mounts.

Sorry but I do not have any measurements.
If you are going to "cut them down" then you will need to shorten the center bar and bolts to match. This would probably take away any benefit to using them so I would just keep the stock replacement pads.

If you put rubber bushings on a car that origionally had the aluminum bushings, you will dramatically improve the Noise , Vibration and Harshness isolation. IMHO, the extra 1/4" in height would be a very small price to pay.

Thanks guys

I think the rubber would make a difference over solid ali, i'll get a rubber set and take it from there.

I personally think these little things, although time consuming, do make a difference to the overall enjoyment of the car

There's are numerous things i've done for little gain but added up they make for a better car.

I'll post the outcome

Cheers.

If you've got objectionable body shake, rubber mounts won't make much difference. Is the birdcage in good solid condition?

Probably shakes cause its worn/loose

Once you tighten the rubber it squishes down probably wont see a difference in height. Mounts dont take much torque at least most rubber ones. Youll love the way it rides .Glad I didnt use poly

The car is lowered with harder suspension. It's inevitable that it'll shake a bit more.

The birdcage is in good condition, i've just had the screen out and done some minor welding on the screen support.

I'll try the rubber and see how I get on

Thanks for your help, cheers
