Well, I got it back together. I had a problem getting the distributor to seat where I wanted it to. I had to turn the oil pump rod about 20 degrees to line up with the pin in the distributor. I set it up with the weakest of 3 spring sets, and it was too much in too soon, so I switched to the middle set. Much better. Now I have:
10 @ 850 rpm
15 @ 1350 rpm
19 @ 1600
24 @ 2000
28 @ 2500
30 @ 3000
32 @ 3500.
The idle is smoother, and it seems to rev better. Good enough for now. I may play with it on the road if the weather permits, or wait till spring to fine tune it. I did buy an adjustable vacuum advance. I installed to at minimum advance for a starting point. Now on to something else.
It's now Winter in Buffalo. Next Spring I'll tweak it a little when I can road test it. I also have to dial in the adj. vac. advance. For now it starts easier, idles great, and has no hesitation. Thanks everyone for the assistance!!
