IS there a secret to installing and torquing these to 75-80 ft/lbs without ripping them? I used new Gr 8 fully threaded bolts and ripped them, tightened them evenly and ripped them, applied never-seize to the bolt heads and ripped them, used a couple of the original bolts with the shoulder and one lock DIDN'T rip the other did! They all started to rip around 50 ft/lbs.
Is there a reason why lock washers can't be used instead, why were the french locks used to begin with?
Gary
Chuck the Frenchies, and use blue loctite. Be sure to clean the anti-sieze off both the bolt threads and the hole threads (spray with brake clean). Loctite also sells a primer which they recommend using with all their locking products.
74 Thanks,
I was thinking aboutusing the loctite but want to know why Gm used the these lock to begin with and why a lock washer couldn't be used?
Thanks,
Gary
