Sorry, couldn't help that. I may be wrong on this but I believe the back of a short water pump rests on the timing cover and the long pump is sort of on legs.
Dimension from the block surface to the hub:
Long water pump 6 15/16
Short water pump 5 5/8
'71 to 82 Corvette water pump 5 13/16
Regular pumps use a 5/8ths pilot shaft while Corvettes use a 3/4 inch pilot shaft.
If I remember right, my 69 had a Corvette length pump, but with a 5/8 inch shaft, and they switched to 3/4 in 1970. You can still put on the later pump, you would just have to switch pulleys to the newer one so the bigger shaft fits in it. That's what I did.
