Default McJacks Header Install Pics

Almost done. Need one more trip to the parts store for 2 more bolts, and an elbow for the AIR fittings.

These are on my 78 IPC with AC, PS, A.I.R. etc....
The install was pretty simple.
Im not finished with the Heat Riser actuator bracket yet. I had to grind some of the bracket to clear the headers. I also used Allen socket bolts as flange bolts wont clear the pipes. 1 1/4 bolts with a ss washer were just right. Ill need 2" bolts with a 1" collar (that slots right into the bolt barrels on the flange...LUCKY!) for the Heat riser actuator bracket. I reused the AC stud, with a 1" collar and a few washers.

I used 81 headers with the Air tubes. The headers put them in a different location requiring longer hoses. Im also going to put an elbow on them. Should be pretty trick.

I used Refmflex graphite gaskets.

The rear most passenger side bolt will have to be a flange bolt, as there isnt room to get an allen socket on it....may have to use a wrench from below.

Next project will be adapting the choke stove to sit on the header. Im looking for a foam or rubber cushion that wont melt, to keep it from scratching the new shiny ceramic coated header.

Enjoy, feel free to share your comments. Wont hurt my feelings.

were those a direct fit with your stock exhaust?

These were direct fit.

Note that they dont have the solid header flange across the whole tubes...just a flange for each set. I trimmed the gasket into three parts.
Also, I liked that the driver side has a convex surface similar to the heat riser so that you dont use the fiber donut and reducer.

Because the AIR tubes mount in a different location, I picked up two brass 1/2" elbows to facilitate the hoses. Ill snap pics once finished. Now if I could just find a set of chrome 1/2" pipe elbows.....

Even the choke stove will work with the headers...truly a direct fit that maintains your emissions. The only headers ive found that have the AIR built in.

Oh, and apparently the difference between the 81 and 82 are the angle of the AIR tube attachments (81 are vertical, 82 are angled forward) and 2" vs 2.5" outlets. 82 have 2.5" outlets.

BTW I had to work the rear header and manifold bolts from under the car.

I used a 6 point impact socket, and had zero issues removing the exhaust bolts. I did break a stud off one of the manifolds though.

Default McJack's

It appears that the headers easily cleared the steering box. Were there any clearance problems at all?

Easily clear everything. It was easier to get these in, than to remove the stock manifolds with the air tubes...

Here was my solution to the air tubes...I used a pair of stainless steel 1/2" street elbows..

The AC bracket was a royal PITA, as was the Heat riser actuator. But I got them.

I probably should have waited to do the heads at the same time, but I am impatient. LOL
Im not looking forward to modifying the AC bracket to the higher AFR ex ports. The stock bracket is diff enough.

I used 1.75" bolts with 1/2" spacers and two ss washers for the bracket and it spaced out just about perfect. I used a 1" spacer on the AC bracket.

I ordered a pair of McJacks that I decided not to install. I'm sticking with the stock ramhorns. Kinda wished I would have come to that decision before ordering these pricey headers... I've put them up on eBay if anybody is interested...

I'm making an appropriate thread here in the parts for sale/wanted area of the forums too.
