Default Belt bracket
From the left over parts of a parts car (79) I have a small bracket which seems to mount to the alternator bracket. What is this supposed to do ? Hold the alt. belt under tension ?

I think the intent is to keep the belt off the underside of the hood in the event the belt breaks. It is a guard, not a tensioning device.

This is a pic from my old (former) 1979. It keeps the belt away from the upper rad hose.
