Default Air cleaner questions

Hi, my '79 was missing the factory air cleaner assembly, intake ducts, and intake hoses when I bought it. I am looking to make a custom cold air setup since the open-element filter on the car is sucking in the hot underhood air. Does anyone know the following dimensions on the factory setup?

1. The shape of the factory air cleaner tubes - oval or round?

2. The diameter of the factory air cleaner tubes (widest measurement if oval)

3. The angle between the two tubes, i.e. 90 degrees, 120 degrees, etc?

I am looking to buy or make a nice custom air cleaner assembly to match up to reproduction intake ducts, using either reproduction or custom hoses.

Thanks!

The stock system brought in cold air from over the radiator support. All of it is available through the aftermarket providers and/or the Parts For Sale forums if you want to return to the stock set up. The AIM shows how everything installed.

Harvey,
I would just buy a used setup. I know not as much fun, but?

Thanks for the advice, but I am looking to use something like this:

http://www.spectreperformance.com/in...-aluminum.html

So I am trying to figure out the sizes and layout I need. I guess I could just order the repro ducts first and take it from there.

OK I may just use the stock ducts and hoses, but I am looking to make or purchase a custom air cleaner housing. If anyone has an original L-82 air cleaner housing, can you please tell me the height and width of the oval snorkels and their angle of orientation? From the photos and the manuals, it looks like it is 90 degrees between the two snorkels. Thanks!

Thanks, I saw that post, it looks awesome. I am trying to do something similar but maybe a dual-snorkel style using the side duct as well.

I actually have the side-swept snorkel box from www.ramairbox.com, but I am hesitant to cut the back of it to clear the distributor.

Regarding my link in post#4, it seems to open fine for me and goes right to Spectre's page for part number 98891.

Harvey what did you end up doing here? I have the same issue but just missing the drive side hose and duct. Passenger side is in tact.

I just kept it as is for now with the open element air filter. Thinking about a Silver Sport transmission install and a fuel injected engine where I can route ducting for cold air. If not I will probably put the stock ducting back or use a hood with a scoop or cowl induction.
