I picked up a (replica) LT-1 short block from a friend because the block in the 73 project was junk. It has all the cool internals, forged crank and pistons, LT-1 solid lifter cam etc. Problem is the 11-1 domed pistons (and probably the cam).
I want a streetable car with as little maint as possible (so out with the solid lifters) and no overheating problems (so I don't want to retard the timing).
From what little I have been able to find out, if I run the smog heads - 76cc chambers - I should end up with about 9.5 -1 ratio. But, do 76cc heads flow well? what cam would you recommend?
i have the LT-1 pistons in my 61 355 because my AFR heads are 73cc. that is 9.7:1
I recommend aluminum heads because they resist detonation. 87 is fine. my cam is comp 270H 224/224/110. This cam is hard to beat! 1000-6000+ and good mpg. Just make sure to have a fully divided dual plane like the RPM (not airgap) and a 4 hole gasket
