Mike,

It doesn't hurt to drop a bottle in for $5.00 for five months of winter storage. Given that an imperial gallon of gas around here was ~$6.00 last summer ($1.40/liter) what the heck?? Much ado about nothing.

Very true- but inferring that 'bad things will happen' if these products are NOT used is not correct. A person could blow their entire pension cheque at Chinese Tire buying up all sorts of additives in a vain attempt to fix that which is not broken.

It also doesn't hurt to do what you mom said and wait an hour before swimming after you've eaten.

The critics would dismiss your jar idea as not being representative of real life and the conclusions therefore meaningless, just as you've invalidated my direct experience. How about we use some of the ongoing comments on this and just about every car enthusiast website that indicate a distinct LACK of cases where a car suffered over a typical winter when stored with just gas in the tank versus the overwhelming volume of instances where the person says 'no problem'.

Again, absence of evidence, (my car starts in the spring) is not evidence of absence (therefore my gas did not deteriorate).

Since we do not know the length of time that someone my plan to store their car the idea of adding stabil may not be irrelevant. I stored mine for a year and a half and wish I had added some stabil. Adding Stabil may not be appropriate for your application, but it may be for mine.
