How do you adjust the travel on the window motor of a 79? The down stop works fine but the up is two inches short and just makes a noise like it ran out of threads or something.
Any helpful ideas?
Possibly a stripped regulator gear. Does the window go all the way up if you help it up with your hand? If so, the regulator gear teeth are stripped and you'll need to pull it and probably the electric motor to repair with either a new regulator or motor gear or both.
All this is provided it's built like my '75.
Check around the site for more info as the regulator can ding you and the car if you're not careful.
Good luck.

Sounds like the regulator gear. In that case the motor and regulator should be removed so as to check the teeth on both. Check out corvettecentral and search their site for C3 window regulator replacement. A stainless regulator repair gear is available for many of theC3's. It requires drilling some small holes and bolting it over the original gear. Otherwise you must replace the regulator itself. I always remove the motor and regulator as one unit along with all the rest of the window junk so I can clean everrything at the same time.
Hope this goes well for you.

It is the regulator gear or motor gear for sure. The restriction is the upper stops located in the top of both the front and rear run channels. If it's not making it to them then you have to have a gearing issue.
Replacement gears are available.. but I suggest you get a new regulator and make darn sure it's the us made one. Why the regulator... well you can buy new rollers for it and you can buy rebuild kits for it but to me it's a time vs. money thing. When you get new you install and go. The time to remove the old gear, weld on a new one, replace the rollers (if needed) just doesn't seem to work to your advantage.
And another suggestion if you go with just the gear... make sure you bolt the gear to the regulator before you remove the power window motor.
You'll find all the parts for rebuilding or replacement at this link --> HERE

Chip- If the 79 is the same as a 75 the door panel is held to the door by
a screw at the top front corner and a screw at the top rear corner. They are easy to see and go straight into the door. There are 2 more screws that go through clips at the bottom of the door. Flop down on your back and look under the door and near the rear bottom of the door if I remember correctly. I don't remove the door handle but pull it out to the open position and slide the door panel forward over it. My door handle screws are frozen tight so it's easier for me to slide the panel off than screw up an original door handle. I use a long wire tie around the door handle and through the door panel hole to facilitate holding the handle while I remove and install the panel.
Take it slow and things should be just fine------frustrating at times---- but you'll get it.
