This is ugly. I am starting to fit my hood back onto my project. The hinges that came off it where butchered so I got new ones. First attempt, not pretty. It needs to go forward 3/8 in, sideways to the right, and the curve over the wheels don't match.
My question is where do I start making adjustments? Should I elongate the hinge holes to move it forward?
The fender is 1/4" lower than the hood midway. How do I match the curve of the hood to the curve of the fender?
Do I need to shim the nose up?
The side to side fit is very tight, can I shave off some of the hood?
I have pictures but not the savy to insert them.

How did the hood get so screwed up? do you have the foam on the edges of the hood as that helps align the height. Take a look at the pictures within the forum or the albums section. Then, I would remove the hinges on the hood and lay the hood on the body and stand back and look at the layout of alignment. Elongating the hinges where it once fit will cause some grief. If you can not see what is going on, look up your user groups for advice or go to a body shop that works with fibre glass or panel alignment.
Thank you.
This was a "project" from the start, lots of sloppy work. The hood closed before but I would not call it a "fit". I knew the fender to mid-hood match was off. I have seen at least one discussion on de-bonding the hood surround and reshaping. I do need the foam.
A lot of Vette hoods are low to the fenders in the middle. I bought the rubber blocks that the vendors sell and glued them to the underside of the hood and it lined up perfectly.
I agree with bigvette to remove the hinges and see how the hood fits in the opening. You can shave a little of off the edges but not much.
I don't think slotting the hinges a little would hinder their operation.
Very good point --- Has the front clip has been off the car?
That much misalignment is not normal for matching pieces unless the front has been off or hit and patched back together. At this point you have some body work and glass sculpture to work on.
The VIN plate is gone and a North Carolina VIN assigned to it. I have to assume trauma in the past, and repair work is very poor. I don't know if the clip has been off.
Is it worth the effort to separate the the fender from inner wells at the top and move them up or down?
The sides just touch at the firewall. If needed can I shave a 1/10 or so off each side?
While I'm at it, I got the screw set with shims for mounting the radiator support. What do I look for to use those shims? up/down sideways?
Thanks for all suggestions.
