Wha is alternator death
I fried my alternator last week. Long story, not very fun. :cry At least I didn't pay for the new one. The old one was only one week old, and I got a free exchange. Anyway, I'm putting on a new alternator, and they gave me this pamphlet that says "to avoid alternator death, charge battery to at least 12.6 volts before connecting battery to alternator." What is alternator death? And how long should I have the battery connected to my truck before I can connect the battery?
Basically, it's putting too much strain on an alternator. But the pamphlet is :bs They're just trying to compensate for cheap alternators rebuilt "offshore" with a lifetime warranty...

[QUOTE]What is alternator death? QUOTE]
"Alternator death" is when you try to charge a dead battery with the alternator. It is designed to top off a slightly discharged battery, not a dead one. You will end up frying the diodes if you use the alternator to completely charge the battery.
Charge for at least 2 hours at 10 amps or over night at 2 amps to top off your battery. :seeya
