I'm doing the auto to 4 speed conversion. I got a Hurst Competition Plus off a buddy's donor 1970 M-21. I've got a 1973 M-22. The adapter plate PN 6939 does not fit. I've seen adapter plate PN 8008 which looks like the right one. Is that correct? Will the shifter unit I have otherwise work? The number on the body of the shifter is Patent 3216274. Thanks for the help.
I should have said that the transmission I have Muncie #3925661 came out of a 73, but I can't be sure it was original to the car. Thanks for the quick replies.
3925661 is the casting number for the main case and is common to M20, M21 and M22 units. I'd be more concerned with the tailshaft casting number if the shifter won't mount up.
Did some further review and other number is P3C01A which I believe makes it an M-20. One web site has the tail shaft number listed as a Chevelle only transmission.
