Hey guys, having a little problem,79, hope you can help.
One of my low beam head lights went out so I went to pep boys and they gave me a replacement, I drove home with the high beams and when I got home I just turned of the car and installed the new bulb for the low beam that was out, then the problem began. I turned on the car and both the high beams and low beams were on, then I tried turning off the high beams and its just not happening, the high beam light dims a bit but the lights don't turn off, then I took the new bulb out and then the switch did work, I was able to turn from high to low. Any ideas why? What I can do?
For now I disconnected the highs so I won't bother drivers
Sounds like a problem with the new headlight, possibly has the hi and low beams shorted together internally. I would take it back and try to exchange it for another.
Suspect it's the high beam switch which mounts on the lower end of the steering column.
When you pull your blinker stalk to switch from l to h or h to l, there is a metal rod that runs along the top of the column which operates the high / low switch. Reach up under the dash and find that metal rod (pretty thin) and operate it manually until you hear the switch click.
I would bet the switch is just sticky if you don't use it much.
Got this problem solved. I guess the first one I bought was defective, because I returned it and got the exact same one, and not it works. Thank you all for your input.
