Default Reinstalling caliper pistons

Anyone have a trick for getting the pistons back in the caliper? The shop manual calls for a small ring compressor to squeeze the piston with seal back into the caliper. I don't have a compressor this small. Will anything else work?

When I rebuilt mine a few weeks ago I lubed the piston/seal assm. with brake fluid, lined it up and it went right in. I used an old brake pad and gently tapped the dust seal in (lubed with brake fluid too)

I just used a very small screwdriver. I seated the piston, then worked the seal into the cylinder going gently around the edge while keeping light pressure on the piston. Once you work the seal all the way around, the piston drops right in. I did all 8 rear pistons this way. I also pre-lubed them with brake fluid.

Hope that helps.

Bill.

Feeler gauge and assembly lube, then a flat body hammer to start and a brass punch to install the dust boots. Funny story !! I ran out of "Raybestos" assembly fluid and I made the mistake of walking into a Pep Boys looking for some, the guy at the counter told me to use "grease", CHASSIS GREASE!! I haven`t been back to pimp boys since. ...redvetracr
