Engine paint?
I want to paint my air cleaner, and have read that many of you used rustoleum/krylon. Does the air cleaner get hot enough to cause problems?
I am skeptical of high temp engine paint because they say not to use primer, and would prefer to use a rattle can primer/top coat. I am a big fan of rustoleum, but that 200 degree limit makes me a little nervous.

Jim,
I did the block, alternator, valve covers and aircleaner lid with Plastikote hi-temp red. I believe I used primer on the valve covers and aircleaner lid, never saw anything about not using it and it turned out fine. It gets pretty hot under my hood and I haven't had a problem yet. Motor

You can use almost any paint on the engine and associated parts. I often use regular automotive body paint (acrylic enamel) on the block, heads, and intale manifold. The only areas that get hot enough to burn off paint are the areas around the exhaust cross over ports on the intake manifold. Many high temp paints are "Snake Oil" IMHO.

Thank you guys! Yellow 72 and shark tank- your engines look :cool: . I would really like to make my engine presentable :lol: Now I have visual motivation!
Looks like rustoleum is the answer for now (Lars' info was great btw, except for that rattle can/honda thing :lol: ).

I glass beaded my air cleaner (along with lots of other stuff) down to bare metal. I then gave it a coat of black bumper and trim paint followed up with some Krylon black gloss paint. Looks very much like the original finish.
