Default dumb question/flexplates

I doing a 2004R swap and I'm going to replace the flexplate and starter. My block has mounting holes for staggered and straight across mounting. Is there any advantage between the 153 and 168 flex plates that would make one better to use over the other? many thanks, bob

I started using 168 on small blocks back when my Vette was new. It is just a better gear ratio and it is easier on the starter. I'm also pro mini starter. They can zing a motor faster and fire it right up

I'm not aware of any difference between the flex plates. If youhave a manual transmission, its a different story because we are talking about the difference between a 10.5 and an 11" clutch, but for the automatic, I don't think there's much difference. I would choose the one that works with the starter that you already have. I would also check to make sure the 168 fits inside your transmission bellhousing because I know there are different bellhousings for the two clutch sizes in the manual transmission.
