My gorilla fingers snapped off another crunchy old plastic part. It's the solenoid that goes from the vacuum advance then to the AIR system. Can anyone decipher this description and shed some light?
73 350 with quad jet part mounted behind water neck has elec plug one end 2 hoses coming out other end
Chevrolet used a Transmission Controlled Spark advance system that only allowed vacuum advance when the engine was cold, or a manual trans was in 3rd or 4th gear. There was a thermal vacuum switch on the thermostat housing, an electrical switch on the 3/4 shifter lever on the trans, a solonoid valve on the vacuum line between the carb and distributor, and the interconnecting hoses and wiring.
The Air Injector Reactor consisted of the engine driven air pump, the vacuum control valve bolted to the back of that, and the hoses and pipes to connect to the exhaust manifolds. This pumped extra air into the hot exhaust gases to completely burn any gasoline that might have passed through the cylinders.
Perhaps at this late date, something has become cross connected on your engine.

Wow, I spent over $200 for one of these 10 years ago that was correct for my 72. No more NCRS for me.
