So when I bought the car the PO had wired in a push start but he had a direct wire from the battery on 1 side and a black wire going to starter on other side of push button. I want to be able to start by ignition key again as I have a new column. I located a purple and white wire coming off the column push plug however it wraps up under the dash and goes into a harness.
Can anyone tell me where this wire normally goes to under the dash and where it normally comes out at in the firewall? I can't spot any same color wire coming out of the firewall anywhere. So this tells me either the PO cut it or after it goes into the harness it gets changed to a different color. I hate to just tap into an uncut wire at the column and run it to the starter. Would much rather find where it comes out at or at least try and track it back to the column. Just need to no where the original wire went after it left the column plug and where it came out of the firewall at on a 76 if its different than the other years.
Oh, gotcha. Yea I wasn't sure of that exact wire. I just read quite a few threads were it was said the starter from ignition that supplys voltage at crank was purple. The only wire I found on column at both wiring locations that was purple had the white as well. Then when I tested for voltage at "Crank" it was 12+ volts and when back to run it was 0. So I just assumed this was the purple everyone was talking about since it sent 12 volts on crank.
I sent ya a PM with my email. Appreciate it a bunch bud!
