would like to know what kind of cam is in a stock L- 82 79" because the guy I bought the car from put in a little bigger cam in the car not knowing what kind of cam he put in. A mechanic did it for him with everything else stock in the motor ten years ago..Im trying to match up the cam thats in it with some different heads but have seen some heads dont work with certain cams.would the stock cam be a hydraulic and flat tappet? Im assuming he would have went with the same kind of cam just larger slightly.the car runs perfectly. appreciate any info. thanks Jerry
The camshaft used in the L82 engine is a good camshaft. It is the same cam used in the L46 350/350 engine from the 69-70 model years and it is a hydraulic flat tappet cam. Im not sure how one can find out what cam the previous owner replaced it with. As you are aware today there are many choices today. Do your homeword on selecting cam and cylinder head choices so you can find out which combinations will work well together so your engine will perform the way you want it to.
ok I will just assume its a flat tappet cam in there.Well its a stock block and heads.
but yes punched out .030 and duel exhaust.I want to make use of the cam in there now,but can a person put any heads into the block regardless OF THE CAM thats in there?{within reason] and make the heads work together with the cam?I was under the impression that some heads need a roller cam?Im a novice. thanks Jerry
