I FINALY HAVE A/C. I ordered my first part 360 days ago, and today I picked it up from the shop that filled it for me. in the end it only cost me about $600 to install everthing (except the evaporator. ) i tell you the thing gets cold. it may squel like a stuck pig, (the belt is a littlle loose) but its cold. The shop put 3.5 lbs of r-134 a in it. i thought that it would need less than that.? anyone know for sure? :D :D :D
Lucky you...I wish I had the same happy ending. Had the '82 converted to R134a, all parts are new and fuctional, had the system vacuumed and new refrigerant added with stop leak, and 3 weeks later, just as warm as the air outside.
Dye was added to spot any leaks before recharging and zip, nothing.
What the hell is going on???? Why don't I have cold air blowing?
My 77 is supposed to hold 46oz that's 2.87 pounds of r12. Since r134a works at higher pressures the capacity is usually 80% of r12 charge. You may be squealing do to a severe overcharge of the system. You need to get some gauges on there and find out what your pressures are.
luvmy82, I,ve been trying to chase a leak in my wife's accord with UV dye without success. I've read that the stop leak stuff is worthless for anything other than a pinhole sized leak. That's proved to be the case for me so far.
