Default Wire help on my 80.

The wire is a 10 or 12 gauge, black with a white or silver stripe. It goes to the right side of engine compartment. Possibly something to do with the .AC.. The A.C. harness is all cut back and this is the only wire I can't ID. I have a wiring diagram from an AIM and also one sent to me from a member and I can't locate the wire.

AC was standard equipment. If the wire in question was part of the factory harness, it should be on your wiring diagram.

Black is usually a ground. 10 is fairly heavy. If memory serves, AC compressors were grounded.

Like I said I looked at 2 different diagrams and I couldn't find the wire. And it's a black wire with a stripe on it.

I still can't find it on a diagram. It is not a ground, and is not hot with the key on.

540, check and see if your wipers and blower motor work with that wire disconnected. On my wife's 77, where the starter harness plugs in, there is a black wire that branches off and grounds the wiper motor, blower motor and blower motor relay. I increased the wire to 10 ga going to the starter area. The wires were hacked up and not original in that area, so I don't know if it had a white stripe originally.

Mine is not connected. It goes to this T type connector along with a light blue wire. I'm thinking it might be for the "Choke Heater" which I don't have. I could be wrong, but everything else is connected and works.

Look at the diagram again, there was a temp switch on the R side that controlled an auxillary fan located between the engine driven fan and the radiator. Colors of the wires were blue and black. this provided the control ground for the fan. Black went to ground....blue to fan. The fan should have a pink + and the blue - wire.

bpassmore is right on the money. The Starter loom has the wires that plug into the block sending unit, that controls the Aux. radiator fan. Which is plugged into the wires you are showing. They put these in later 82 models as std. equipment. In long lines of traffic, the fan would automatic kick on at 230 F. degree, & cool the radiator down. Have a great day. Gene
