Default another dyno story

ok so after more tuning and a new timing chain my L48 with edelbrock q-jet intake, headers, street fire dizzy with accel super coil and curve kit put down 205HP at 4400rpm and 266tq at 3000rpm. it was done on a dynojet, weather conditions were 74 degrees and 42% humidity. i also had my timing at 12degrees BTDC and was running 89 octain gas.

I did 233 RWHP @ 5,500 and 273 RWTQ @ 3,500 RPM with a stock L-82 with Shorty headers, 2.5 inch duals, Holley 4175 650 CFM Q-Jet replacement, OEM aluminum L-82 intake, and Comp Cams roller tipped 1.5 rockers with a #6 weak cylinder. I figure that the L-82 in my car is good for 240-245 RWHP with all cylinders functioning correctly. Your numbers are pretty much what I would expect from a mildly breathed on L-48, about 40 RWHP less HP than the L-82. Looks like you have it dialed in pretty good since those are about the best numbers you could hope for. Good job!

Larger cam and a set of good heads would bump ya up quite a bit. When i dynoed my l48 12.8 or so seemed to make the most power.

That's what i am planning to do soon to my L-82: AFR 180 65CC heads and Howard's Roller cam (not quite set on which one yet)-no other changes. Hoping for 325 RWHP!

Thats almost stock. the 77 and 76 put out 180 hp I beleave net. I'm not for sure what year they went from gross to net, none the less thats somewere in the neighbor hood of 40 to 50 horse from intake, headers & tune. Impressive. You hear it on here all the time that headers and tune are the cheapest bang for the buck, proven here by your numbers.

That's impressive for a near stock L48. I had heads cam intake carb headers 10:CR and missed the 300RWHP mark, made 296RWHP and 330 RWT.

It was still a great motor and a lot of fun but not as easy as it sounds to make 300HP at the wheels with 350ci and flat tappet cams. Consider the losses you need to be making 400HP or more at the flywheel with a TH350. Now roller cam might have made a difference but at the time there was no street rollers.

When you dynoed the 406 and figured your losses @ 22% what transmission was that through? When I dynoed the l48 the guy running the dyno said that the losses differed with each transmission.

I thought the same thing, nothing left on the table.

You know, with all the NCRS guys on this forum I am surprised we don't have a true "stock" chassis dyno baseline for these cars. THAT would be a great sticky. Bone stock L48 through a TH400 and 3.08 = ? etc...

To do that though we would have to find an NCRS guy that would rev his car to 5k. Is that allowed?

That would b awesome, but every engine is going to perform differently. A monday or friday built engine will IMHO will make less power than a tuesday wednesday thursday engine.

...not to mention the temperature and elevation at which the test was conducted - gotta be corrected to standard conditions first!

Going to a roller cam soon here's what I found out,Howards Cams are not ground on a billet core!! Got this reply from them:

That cam is ground on a SADI cast core & requires no special distributor gear.
