Anybody use the ZIP #RA-228 aluminum radiator ($400) for a 1970 454 Manual Transmission? I would like feedback on this particular radiator. It's either this one, or have my original brass/copper re-cored. I'm not concerned about how beautiful it is... I'm concerned about fitment and durability.
Anybody out there install this radiator? I would like actual "user" feedback if possible. I.E.- Is it truly a drop in? Hose connections in the right place and at the correct angles? Tank flanges the correct width and the correct horizontal spacing to fit the factory rubber mounts correctly? Factory weatherstrip can be added/bonded along lip where required (along top edge)? Drain **** in the same/OEM place? No (extra) Automatic Transmission bungs? Lower radiator hose connection is not a "Frankenstein" configuration like I have seen on some?
Installed the Dewitt in my 70' 454 automatic about ten months ago (the Keisler RS 500 is sitting on the shop floor and going in as part of a zero time body off rebuild). It is a true drop in. Every thing lines up to stock original. It's a dead bang on replacement. I ordered the insulation kit from Zips and everything went in just fine. The workmanship of the Dewitt radiator is excellent and your cooling will improve. You will not be disappointed. Good customer service too.

I just installed one in my 71 454 W/AC. Everything fits and lines up fine. One minor issue is the Expansion Tank (AC) spout should be bent over more. It makes the Expansion Tank hose kink a little by the time you route over to the firewall. The stock spout is about 70-80 degrees and the Dewitts is about 45 degrees. Not a huge issue, but you asked.

Thank you for responding. My original is also 70-80.
I have the DeWitts radiator in mine as well, (manual trans), for in excess of 5 years. Everything lined up using stock radiator hoses, drains etc. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks Jim, did you paint yours or leave it as is?
