I was looking at the original AC braided wires for radio cars like mine in the Zip catalog. Looks to me like every wire has a little "tag" with an eye to ground each wire to something. To what? If I've got to go around pulling all the exhaust manifold bolts, I think I'll stick with the plain old Accels!
Those are radio interference grounds that hook up to the valve cover bolts.
Cool, I can live with that. I'd just read too many threads about people sheering off those exhaust maniforld bolts to want to pull 'em out just for the plug wires. I think I'll order me a set!
If you are going to drive the car I would not use the braided wires.
I have read that they deteriorate very quickly and start loosing spark to the insulator!
I bought a set of dated repro wires from a vette vendor. They were about $100, and are made by Lectric Limited. They worked fine, but I heard they were "crap" so I bought a set of AC Delco wires, for about $60 ??? (dont remember). They really look almost exactly the same, except without the dates, and they also work fine. The AC Delco wires of course are available from a wide variety of vendors that stock AC Delco products. I even have the part # somewhere.
Your next question will be exactly which valve cover bolt should I use for each wire!  (Partial answer: 2 ground things go on 1 bolt).
GM part number is 8912284
You should be able to find them for $60 - $70.

The old wires are carbon core, and you have to be extremely carefull how you handle them. You can very easily break the carbon core, and now your wire is worthless. Also, they tend to become brittle over time.

I'm assuming the current production AC/Delco braided wires are not carbon core & therefore don't have the problem with deteriorating quickly that Keith mentioned above? Or do the current production deteriorate even though they're not carbon core and their grounding to the shielding makes them a problem where other wires deteriorating a little wouldn't be a problem?
