Gonna clean up all wiper hardware, repaint before reinstalling, has anyone taken the pivot apart before spins freely is it serviceable, also where arm is rivoted to pivot arm, looks like a steel rivot was gonna take apart to ease cleaning, not sure if is good idea
I rarely see the transmission pivots in need of having the cap removed for dis-assembly and repaired. But the center pivot where it clamps down on the bell crank is another area where I seen very few problems. Are they bad?
All seems to be ok, just want to do whatever is necc. or pm while it's off and apart. took apart the the center pivot ball, i've never seen any of those parts reproduced, should i lube with something when re-assembling? white grease?
I made a tool to force grease into the transmission pivot shaft bushing (the splined shaft to which the wiper arm attaches). Mine were stiff but not frozen. Rotated freely after greasing. I'll post a pic tomorrow.
Made the following from a 1-1/2" piece of 1/2" iron pipe. Tapped a 3/8-18 pipe thread into one end and installed a 3/8" plug. Ground the other end flat and square with my disc sander. Drilled and tapped the side for a grease zerk. Bought a suitably sized o-ring.
C-clamped the fitting in place and applied grease from my grease gun.
While grease did sqeeze out at the o-ring seal, I did get the grease to flow around the pivot bushing and out the top end. After the first sign of grease at the top, I removed the c-clamp so I could spin the pivot shaft to distribute the grease around the bushing. I reassembled and hit it again with the grease gun. The grease moved much more easily to the top. It can be a bit messy; but this is a once in a lifetime operation per car in my mind. Much easier than attempting a disassembly!
